Garage door cable and track repairs

Garage door hanging crooked or off its track? Snapped cables and bent tracks repaired safely across the southern Gold Coast, 8am–9pm every day.

Open · 8am–9pm

On a sectional door, two steel cables run from the bottom corners up to drums on the spring shaft. If one snaps or comes off its drum, the door hangs crooked and can jam in its tracks. Tracks themselves get bent when a car nudges them or a door is forced.

A crooked door is under uneven load and can fall, so this is one fault where it's best to stop using the door and keep clear until it's been made safe.

When to call us

  • The door hangs lower on one side
  • A cable is hanging loose or frayed
  • Rollers have popped out of the track
  • The track is bent or loose on the wall
  • The door jams partway up

How we do it

  1. Make it safeWe secure the door before releasing any tension.
  2. Straighten or replace tracksBent tracks are straightened or replaced and fixed back to the wall securely.
  3. New cablesCables are replaced in pairs and seated correctly on their drums.
  4. Re-balanceThe door is re-hung level, balanced and tested.

Near the beach?

Cables are thin steel and salt attacks them quickly. Frayed or rusty cables near the beach should be replaced before they snap.

Cable and track repairs questions

Can I put the door back on the track myself?

We'd advise against it. The cables and springs are under high tension, and a crooked door can fall.

Why did my cable snap?

Usually age, rust, or a spring that failed and dumped the load onto the cable.

Do you replace both cables?

Yes, they wear together, so we replace them as a pair.
